Music Girl

Let the music rescue you;
Flight for life when youre feeling blue.
On the dark side of the rainbow,
Blacks the only hue.

Take a supernatural starship
To the heavens up above.
Through a lipstick sunset
With the person that you love.

Your music is what carries you
To another place in time;
No one seems to understand,
Its the lyrics not the rhyme.

Share with me your loneliness,
Ill help you if I can.
If only I were there with you.
Id be your Music Man.

I wrote this in 1996 for a friend that used music as an escape from her problems. A companion piece to "You're My Music Girl" [link]
Thanks to " my-stock " [link] for her sheet music image.

Hello. My name is Cassandra Martinez. I am a Composer (music) and I am looking to write a piece to your poems "Music Girl" and "You're My Music Girl". I would like it if I could get permission to write these pieces that will be performed at my Senior Composition Recital. Please email me at: so I know that I have permission to use these. Also, can you let me know the background behind the pieces and your birth year. I really look forward to hearing from you soon. Please contact me as soon as possible. Thank you.
Hi Cassandra,

I am currently discussing with another party the possibility of them writing music to one or both of these so unfortunately I must say no. I wouldn't want two pieces of music to the same poem(s). I see you just joined DeviantART today. I have had bad experiences with unknown people that have only been on DeviantART a few days making requests for my art. In most cases there is no problem, but it has happened occasionally.

It always pains me to say no - I'm sorry. DeviantART has many great poems though; I would check out these. I'm sure you will find something you will like.

Best regards,
Hey, I'm in college for Music Therapy, and my final project for Music Theory is to write a song to a poem someone else wrote. I was wondering if I could use your poem? I really enjoy it.
I noted you. :-)

I love this one, too. I already faved the companion piece.

The opening stanza seems awkward, (the rhyming contrived) - but as it rolls along it picks up a good rhythm and moves the thoughts through well.
