Overcrowded by TomWilcox Overcrowded by TomWilcox
Well, my second submission with Bryce. First, let me say: this is all stock Bryce stuff. I take no credit for the individual images. Second, do I care? Hell no. Sometimes art is only about a concept and it requires very little ability. Many will say about this, I could have done that. And yes, it's true. But you didn't.

That ocean is so vast—I can't tell where the water ends and the sky begins! Great concept.

Like you said, sometimes art is concept. And this, I would say, is a very good concept. Nice idea!

Yeah, good thing we weren't born 20 years earlier; we wouldn't be playing with all this fun stuff. Plus we would be in our 80s!

thats really cool :d i like it, simple but effective. But does it need a shadow if it has a reflection?

Funny, I thought about that too. Came to the conclusion that the reflection always comes at you but there can be a shadow also that can fall anywhere opposite the light source. :-)

Really creepy and sad... reminds me of Tarkovsky's Solaris (not the bloody hollywood remake!!!)

I agree on the description.
You have the idea...the material was available,
and so you use those. It's your concept that
made you do this one.

The image is a metaphor of humans populating
the earth, with resources is dwindling as humans
multiply [just look at the population of China and India
and the rest of the world] and consume everything to
the point of exhausting [plants/animals and resources]
the food supply?

Excellent Tom! :)

Art for art's sake... I like that. It's like looking at a piece by Picasso. At first you think that you could do just as good a job as he could. Then you realize... you didn't do it... he did it. Good concept!

There's technical ability, artistic ability, many different kinds. The idea is to put together something that you yourself like, whether it's a apo piece that is awesome in it's execution from knowledge of the program and sense of feel to a Bryce piece using stock materials with a great artistic sense to create something beautiful. (If that makes any sense) Just because you know all the technical aspects of a program doesn't mean you can do anything beautiful with it, as just as you don't know much technically about a program doesn't mean you can't create something beautiful. It's in the creativity of the individual...and some luck sometimes. :) Very nice piece Tom! :)

Perhaps a little Photoshop touchups would add to it - I'd reccommend making the sea a more Caribbean blue, and using unsharp mask a little bit.

Not familiar with unsharp mask. I'll check it out. I chose very "gray" colors for sky & water for the feeling of isolation, loneliness.
Thanks for you suggestions; I really appreciate you taking the time to help.
